Lil Herb - Gangway (Prod. by DJ L, 2012)

Do not watch if: you can’t take any more of the Lord of the Flies-style ruthless youthfulness of gangbanging Chicagoland. (understandable.) DJ L, who produced Fatzmack’s “Drummin”, does some neat work here with a claustrophobic string loop that you expect to break out at any moment; instead it keeps building to nothing, trapped in repetition. The snares dance across the beat at unexpected times. There’s something queasily sinister and original about it all.
